Half term!!!

It’s already been a week since our first deadline and I can’t help but feel so relaxed about it. It is also very clear that the fate of this assignment rests in the hands of Steve, and whether or not we've completed the tasks in the correct standard that will gain us at least a pass. As this week has progressed I have gained very useful tips that could be used to my advantage in future assignments. 1 of which seems so very simple, that I can’t seem to think of why it didn’t occur to me until a 2nd year student (Julian Dyer) published it in last week’s blog entry as a comment. Been aware of this task in the past would have saved me from having to rush things at the last minute in order to gain the use of a CD labelling kit.

Thing that could help me in the future (feel free to add comments on other additions):

- Produce a hand in check list at the start of an assignment (include all tasks including labelling CD and time management).
- Constant reminders of time planning (plan a source that is a constant reminder).
- Become literally exceptional which course related programs.
- Find more sources of creativity/inspiring images

A hand in checklist would be a very good idea, especially as this time i forgot to include my production schedule in my work. It would enable us to make sure we had included all the documents that we need!

We did create a 'hand-in checklist'!

Do you remember the "List of all the things – large or small – that you need to do, to ensure your first assignment is complete and handed in on time" exercise?

All those Monday morning exercises have a purpose - they're not just to pad out the week!

Remember to keep your goals achievable John. I'm not sure that "Become literally exceptional which course related programs" is that achievable or measurable.

It's always difficult to say that you want to become exceptional at using course-related programs. I think a better goal would be to become proficient in course-related programs.

It takes a lot longer than two years to become "exceptional"!

It is good to see that you took my advice on board, John, and I’m sure a checklist will help with the next assignments.

Through the year you should keep testing out little systems like this to see if they help you organise yourself better – not all of them will work, but if they don’t it is something to put in your evaluation.

@ Steve: The checklist at the start of the unit is I suppose the ‘uber checklist’, where as the one I suggested should just have the stuff for the end, for example the plastic wallets, signing the front sheet, etc.

I find just having the large checklist a bit overwhelming to go back through, and many tasks can be ticked off when doing the weekly time sheets anyway.

I found it helped a lot with out A9 assignment, and will continue to use it in conjunction with a master timeplan of tasks for the next assignment.

Did we create a hand in checklist Steve??? If we did, then that was also something that I lost track of during the assignment, and thanks Craig, but i was refereing to knowing the basic tools and use of course related programs rather then knowing them inside out...

@Julian. Okay, a slightly mischievous post on my part, but with a legitimate point. Any list should be as long as it needs to be, and your experience has allowed you to refine your list to suit your purposes.

@John. Rather than doing things mechanically [i.e. "I'm doing this just because Steve said so"], you need to start relating classroom tasks to the actual assignments. There's always a purpose. The tasks might not give you *exactly* what *you* need - but once the purpose of the task 'clicks' in your mind - you can then modify it to suit your needs. So, a recap:

1.Have correct equipment
2.Use time sheet
3.Word count
4.Write name on and sign assignment sheet
5.Get someone to proof read it
6.Hand in on time
7.Back-up work
8.Print CD label
9.Be near hand in point early
10.Ensure CD works!!!
11.Turn up to class
12.Don’t go out the night before
13.Sign work in
14.Format work
15.Complete target audience
16.Have a secondary form of transport to get here
17.Use references
18.Hand Sketch book in
19.Label lever arch file
20.Label pages in sketch book
21.Index sketch book and show where assessable work is
22.Use self study
23.Complete screen designs
24.Set camp outside college doors
25.Keep work away from dog
26.Take notes
27.Ensure enough print credits are obtained to print assignment off
28.Annotate sketch book
29.Presentable
30.Use your journal
31.Be smart do 5 measurable goals
32.Research web hosts
33.Complete delivery requirements
34.Use template
35.Complete competitive analysis
36.Do lots of screen shots
37.Evaluate
38.Spellings
39.Complete budget statement
40.Set multiple alarm clocks
41.SWOT Analysis
42.Follow learning outcomes
43.Complete site map
44.Complete assets list
45.Find multiple sources of information
46.Use paper based and electronic sources
47.Title each assignment
48.Find artistic inspiration and put in sketchbook
49.Do micro planning to ensure, you’ve got it
50.Ensure you have ink cartridges

Having completed this exercise - and I firmly believe you only get out of these things what you're prepared to put in - your thought processes should lead you to the idea of a personal checklist.

I also have had the hand-in checklist idea and have tried to keep to one throughout this assignment with varied amounts of success, used properly and fully it will be a great asset.

You also left things till the last minute like I did, next time better time management would be good.

Yes I agree that making a checklist is useful like the one we did for Johns lesson. This will make sure that all the work is done.

Hey Everyone

I am trying to drum up some interest in my most recent journal entry.

The focus of this is the third paragraph and Steve's comments regarding it.

I would really appreciate it if people could leave a comment showing how they feel about the situation and any possible solutions.

I also found the hand-in checklist very useful as it made sure that I had everything ready for the hand-in date.

I also think that it is important that the list is as concise as possible and that each individual task is broken down as much as it can be.
